CLIL UNIT PLAN


NAME: Emilio Pons Alberola
SUBJECT: Trigonometry
TITLE: The triangles
YEAR: 2016

Step 1:   The driving question.
·         Let’s write down your driving question and why you think this is important.
What are triangles?


Step 2: The preview of the whole unit
·         Preview the whole unit. Take a look at the title, headings, and captions to obtain 15-20 basic vocabulary that must be internalized by my pupils at the end of the unit.
Longest and shorter side, hypotenuse, squares, square root, perimeter, scale factor, rotation, homicide, sin, cos, tan, Pythagoras’ Theorem, Thales’ Theorem, side Ratios, the inverse ratios, etc


Step 3: The easiest and hardest section of your unit.

The most difficult aspect that my students might find is: understanding trigonometric relationships.

The easiest aspect that my students might find is: understand the sum of the angles is 180 degrees.



Step 4: Law aspects.
The LOMCE defines 7 competences: (let’s define some aspects of each competences)
·         Linguistic competence.
·         Mathematical competence and basic competences in science and technology.
·         Digital competence.
·         Learning to learn.
·         Social and civic competences.
·         Initiative and entrepreneurship.
·         Cultural awareness and expression.
I will include these LOMCE standards in my unit plan: (try to find it into your Autonomous Community curriculum)

Catalunya Autonomous Community Curriculum,  The LEC defines 8 competences:

Mathematical competence.
Learning to learn.
Autonomy and and personal initiative.
Knowleadge and interaction with the physical world

Step 5: Content
·         Which interdisciplinary subjects could be connected to in this unit? Why and how?
English: Gradual learning and improvement throughout the course. Writing texts and learning vocabulary and pronunciation.
History: Knowing the mathematicians who have contributed knowledge about triangles
Drawing: To properly use drawing material.


Steps 6: Soft Skills.
·         I will include these soft skills in my unit plan:
o   Teamwork and collaborative work.
o   Communicative competences: listening and speaking skills.
o   Giving and receiving feedback: writing and reading skills.
o    Research information in encyclopaedies or internet.
o   Develop skills for learning itself.
